Negative Role Models

Every day, we as a society, are bombarded with all the nonsense of the mainstream media.  How much longer can our society continue to allow itself to be intellectually declining and blinded by the real issues that are we, as a society, are facing.

Reality TV

With the lack of any original thought in Hollywood, we are now exposed to an onslaught of ridiculous reality TV shows, as well as the drama that follows it.  I for one am not a fan of the reality TV concept.  The lowest common denominators and bottom feeders of society are given way too much public exposure.  It is to the point where the up and coming generations are looking up to these degenerates as role models.  To further add to it, mainstream media is also sending the message to these up and coming generations that by acting the way these people do, they are being rewarded for it.  Let’s go through a couple of examples:

Mob Wives –

This show is featuring the wives and significant others of mobsters.  For those of you that do not know, mobsters are people that make a living off of stealing and killing.  On this show we have Karen Gravano, daughter of Sammy “The Bull” Gravano, who made a living by killing people and then became a turncoat by being an FBI informant.  While in the Witness Protection Program, he began a drug ring and was busted along with his daughter, whom was also involved.  So, to reward her behavior, she now has a reality show that follows her ridiculous life, as well as a book deal that will make her even more money.  Great message we are sending to society.

Jersey Shore –

I do have a soft spot for this show only due to the fact that I visit the Jersey Shore during the summer, but the show itself could end tomorrow and I would not lose sleep over it.  With that said, let’s take a look at some of the real winners that were found for this show.  Paulie D has hair that doesn’t move, and I am almost certain that the large amounts of hair gel used had seeped through his scalp and clogged his brain.  Mike “The Situation” Sorrentino’s claim to fame is by lifting up his shirt and showing his abs, which he refers to as his “situation”.  I will bet you 10 to 1 odds that he cannot even spell situation.  Ronny seems like a domestic violence dispute waiting to happen with the way he fights with Sammi, whom is another reject.

Oh, and let’s not forget Snooki, who happens to get drunk, punched, and arrested almost everywhere she goes.  The only reason I watch this show is to wait and see when she will get punched again.  Put this into perspective, Snooki received more money to appear at Rutgers graduation than a Nobel Prize winning author the year prior.  These are the people are being depicted as role models by the young generations.

Then we have those politicians that have their cult following and are portrayed as the All-American role model:

Sarah Palin –

At first I thought that the media was just giving her a bad image.  It was not until the other day when I realized how dumb and uneducated she really is.  I know, I should have picked up on this earlier, but I have more important things to do than follow Sarah Palin.  However, she messed up a classic story of American History, which was about Paul Revere’s ride to warn that the British were coming…not to warn the British that they were not going to take our weapons.

After being called out immediately on being entirely wrong, she had the audacity to say she wasn’t and that history was on her side.  To add insult to injury, someone tried editing the Wikipedia page on Paul Revere to make her appear accurate.  This says volumes about those that follow her.  For the sake of making her appear right, some are willing to misinform everyone else.

In my honest opinion, all of this is adding to the intellectual decline of American Society.  We all stand to lose if we as a people continue to promote this kind of behavior.  By allowing this, we are showing society that not only is this acceptable, but you will be rewarded for it.

Don’t even get me started on 16 and Pregnant…
